Asian motors are less efficient due to lesser materials and there simply isn't quality control.

Any American or German made motor is more efficient and more forgiving to setups that aren't ideal. Their increased efficiency equates to longer runtimes, something everybody wants and pays for, and it makes an easier load for esc's. (which you seem to like to break)

I'm a function over form guy and a tight penny pinching scrooge. I personally would never reccomend an asian motor to anyone based on my experiences. That's saying a lot considering they are half the money or less.

I'm glad to hear you finally have a setup you like and can use. I hope it holds up for you. I'll be watching, oh yes.
it's cool, Harold. i've i always said you gotta run whatever blow your hair back.

i seem to be able to make motors last....be it brushed or brushless. i still have my first velineon from a few years ago and stock motors from the 80's that still work like the day i got them. i can honestly say the only motor i've ever burned up (not from over-volting it on purpose cause i've done plenty of those) was a tekin mini rage motor last summer. i've worn plenty of motors out, but i almost never burn them up.

i also like the novak HV's now too.

update:

i burned my first vxl-3S, but it was all my fault. i had it grossly over-geared for the track . i ended up torching it during some practice.

it had been so long since i ran one, i forgot what the fast blinking light meant...thermal.
i just kept thinking it was going into lvc and kept re-setting it. after re-setting it for the 4th time, it let out smoke.

so i consulted with asheck, and he squared me away. i needed to gear down, use some caps and maybe run a bec.

great advise.

all i really had to do was gear down. i went from 45/16 to 48/12 and i can't thermal it at all. i had the lvc off too, and ran my pack too low (ie:2.52 per cell) before the esc even got to 130 degrees.

i'm not sure if the pack will recover, but the esc kicks ass.

thanks to Asheck. i was ready to throw in the towel on the vxl-3S...now i'm glad i hung on to the spares i had.

Your Welcome. :) Have you tried using the caps or BEC yet? Were you still happy with the speeds geared down?

i have the caps and bec now, but haven't installed them yet. i wanted to see what the gearing change would do first.

i just can't imagine running much cooler than i am now. i'm still gonna install the caps and bec, but now it's just for shits and giggles and not because i'm gonna smoke it if i don't...wow...that felt really good to say. have i said THANK YOU? dude...that seriously made all the difference in the world.

as far as top speed...it's weird. i really didn't notice any drop off. i know it has to be there, but i can't tell off-road or on the track. maybe if i did some high speed runs i might notice it, but not so far.

update: it's still running strong...I'm still on the same esc i got back from traxxas in June from my last post....i'm still on the same feigao too.

i really dig this setup for 3S.

i also liked it so much that i made a dual VXL-3S e-revo with 7L feigaos, and my sportwerks truggy is now rockin the same setup.

I see by your sig that your basically all feigao-motorized these days. Interesting setups for sure. I too like the MMP, but I run it on 5-6s.
