as I have some problems with my xcelorin, I have tested the HK 150a today. It's my backup esc, but I will run it permanently, the xcelorin gives me headaches.

It says tht its only up to 4s, but I have read about 6s use. So I thought, well, let's have a try on 5s.

the Caps are 25v, so I will be save with 5s I think. Finally a ESC with sufficient power caps, 3x 1000uf.



Today I had a first short test run. Good throttle, little - no cogging. Default is forward w/reverse, after breaking it gets to reverse instandly. so I will remove reverse.

Power output is great, I think better then the losi. It's bloody big, but fits into my truggy. Programming with the box is easy.

As I am not sure about the BEC, I run it with the hextronic ubec (pretty good thing).

IIRC, the 4833N FET is the same one used in the Tekin RX8 ESC. How many are there on the ESC?

You can run 5s with 25v caps, but it doesn't give you too much wiggle room for braking, especially when installing a fresh 5s pack, which is 21v.

all what you can see on the pic, afaik only on the bottom side? I could not get the heat sink off. dunno whats under the heatsink, but probably the same amount of fets. what would that mean?

Well, there are 36 FETs on the visible side which is pretty typical for a ~150A rated ESC. If there were the same number under the heatsink, that would be 72 FETs, and would probably be rated closer to 250A if not more. So, I would guess the heatsink is simply attached to the PCB and draws heat from the visible FETs via the circuit board. Might seem like a waste, but having the heatsink not attached directly to the FETs makes it more durable IMO (any shock on the sink doesn't affect the FETs as much), and would negate any chance of the heatsink not sitting flush on all the FETs (each one may not be soldered exactly flat).

From what I've seen of these HW ESCs, they seem pretty decent. It's just too bad their programming is limited and the software isn't the best IMO (poor slow speed performance). Programming-wise, they remind me of old-school Quark ESCs without the smooth low speed action.

I will say the FET arrangement/layout looks a bit odd. It's like they just plunked them down wherever there was room. Typically, they are arranged in specific banks/rows to make circuit paths as short and clean as possible to reduce copper losses. But whatever, I'm not an ESC designer...

Thanks for the information. A colleague just told me that there are no FET under the heatsink.

It's big, yep, but I think it's cheaper to manufacure like that. And maybe heat can dissipate better. As long as it fits onto the chassis, I don't care.

Programming options are plenty, at least enough for me, more then the Xcelorin has. And acceleration is good, too, depending on the setting. Tried a medium acceleration, compared to default "very high" weak and slow performance, felt very strange.

Throttle response was pretty good, no complaints here so far.

A strange question....
I have the same ESC and I noticed it uses an Atmel MCU.These days I'm trying to make an ESC(for myself) and I need source code which supports all funtions of this ESC.Does anyone has the source code or knows from where can I request it?

I highly doubt you will find the source code for any ESC since that is the heart of the whole thing. The hardware is relatively easy to do, it's the code that makes or breaks the product. If you legally find the code from a reputable source, I would be very surprised.
