How to Stuff Large Castle Motors into an E Revo?

you could just make a new motor plate to mount the 1717

The 1717 just fits in the rear position, but i think you are limited to gearing. You wont be able to get the motor close enough to the spur. Might need to get some big pinions and big spurs. Take a look at this http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=500695

By the way i got a 1527 to fit into a G3R carbon mounted on a CD

65 spur 25 pinion

Is it correct that the 1520 is longer in length than the 1717? I might pick one up,if they're still available next week

This could be the best idea yet. This method could even help with the placement of the 1717.

There are definate advantages to having the motor work in the lower position.

@ Hescabol Wow that's a tight fit, even after trimming the shock mount. Have you had any problems bending the shock screw since trimming the top of the shock mount? Think I'm going to have to give it a shot either way, to get my handling back.

I haven't had any problems with the screw bending, but I haven't took any large jumps

I'm going to try the 1518 1800kv version first. I'll have to remove that 1520.

I thought it would make for an interesting picture though. LOL

I just fitted the 1518 into my E-Revo and it was easy. Little bit of trimming of the rear shock mount was all it took (and the gearing change).

I am going to stick a 1717 into one of my other revos which should make it interesting. LOL. I am actually working on a transmission plate that would move the motor mount up higher and allow for more gearing options. We'll see how that works out. If it comes up OK I might Ebay a few pieces.

Anyway now I have to buy cars to fit these guys into.

Curse you Castle. Thats more money I have to spend.

Now I wonder where are the HV car ESC from Castle?

Ok, I've had a chance to get a couple of runs in on the 1518 1800kv motor.

Gearing is 24/52 on 4S. According to Brian's Speed Calculator, this is about 40mph.

Power is fed from 2 - 4S 4000mah 20C Turnigy Packs ran parallel.

This motor makes really good power and doesn't break a sweat.

Temps are about 70 degrees outside and I'm sure the motor barely got to 110 degrees. Very efficient! I predict this motor will live a very long time.

It took awhile before any heat could be detected at all. I didn't take it easy on it either.

I must try it on 6S.

Damn dude, you keep squeezing those big motors in there!

Kershaw has a mount that raises the motor up a bit to clear the shock mount. Its one of his funky designs though and it doesn't use the stock traxxas cast piece. I'm thinking about making a new motor plate to raise the motor, but while using the stock cast aluminum piece as well. I'm sure Monster Mike could come up something much nicer and cleaner than I could though. Hint Hint

Even though I do have a 1717 in my second Revo (pretty much a shelf piece) I can't see too many people going out and doing the same. Just way too much of an overkill so making a mount for mass sale doesn't make much financial sense to me. Anyway the 1518 is about as a perfect of a match for the Revo as you could get and it will fit with only minimal messing about.
