Yeah, you can buy a meter / yard of nylon rod ( Delrin usually ) for a couple bucks which is enough to make a dozen or more posts, compared to one set of posts which costs ~$5 or so. Seen it done a few times over the years and it works & looks fine + very cheap ofcourse.
