Hot bodies 1/8 diffs

OK. I have the hinge pins in when I went to assemble them the Upper (longer) pin sits flush with the arm edges. I can't use the included clips to hold the pin in place. Correct me if I'm wrong but the ends of the pin should stick out far enough to use the c-clips. Did I order the wrong hinge pins? Remember I'm using UE supermaxx A-Arms.
