I was really surprised how Santorum did to be honest. I figured Romney would be one of the top contenders - after all he looks like the presidential type. Some people just go for the look/charisma rather than what the candidate stands for on the issues. I guess it doesn't matter what he does as long as he looks good doing it.

When the wife and I first arrived at the caucus site, there was only around 6 people in the room, including the candidate reps and caucus officials. Well, the Gingritch rep and I started chatting a bit asking about who I was supporting and such. He surprisingly didn't have much bad to say about Paul except his foreign policy and that Paul wasn't "electable" (of course I was happy to enlighten him to my opinions on those arguments). He said Gingritch's experience in past position put him in a far better place to be elected. In light of the Iowa's results, I find it rather funny that he ended up so far down the list. He might make a comeback in other state caucuses/primaries, but he's low enough that I don't see it happening.

Anyway, I haven't written off Paul yet. He's still in the top 3 by a fair margin with only 4 percentage points below the leaders. Hopefully the other states come through for him.
