I used a small piece of fuel tubing on each side of the driveshaft and what a difference, no more clunking noise and the shafts aren't binding anymoe either. The motor and ESC ran cooler and I was able to get a longer run time. I ran a 14T pinion and temps never got over 110 degrees. Cutting the right length of tubing for each cup took a little time but was well worth it. Thanks guys!
