DT's new 1:1 - XRS Corolla

So.... I sold the $4!7box bimmer and bought a 2006 XRS Corolla. It has the Celica GT-S motor, 6 speed manual, stiffer struts and springs, larger sway bars, front strut brace and rear strut tower X brace. It gets incredible gas mileage and if I can stay away form the 8200 rpm redline I will get close to 400 miles on an 11 gallon tank.

How does it compare to the Sentra SE-R Spec V? My brother has the Sentra and it's quite fun to drive.

Thanks, It is comparable to the Spec V, I work with a guy that has one and we ran a few times on 1/4 mile road that is the back end of the buildings parking lot. It was pretty even every time except when he missed 2nd. I ran 2 civic si's over the weekend and just thrashed them both.

I drove it much harder this weekend than I will during regular commutes and still pulled 30 MPG :D

Have fun with "lift" in the high RPM's!!! I miss my 02 Celica GTS......

This is also the same motor and transmission used in the lotus. Since lotus started using them there is a lot more aftermarket parts you can get including several different stages of cam upgrades and what not. It is by far one of the finest small motors out there. The head work by Yamaha is a work of art.

It sounds like it's about the same speed as my 1988 Celica AllTrac Turbo. I raced my brother's Sentra SE-R Spec V three times. I beat him all three times, but just barely ... not enough to really say mine is faster. My car has 190 hp/ 190 ft-lbs at the crank, where his has 175 hp at the crank (torque unknown). Mine has awd (lots of power loss) and is 20 years old.

For some reason he won't race me in the snow.

What are the power specs on your new XRS?

I want to mod it, but keep it mild (by my standards), intake, the trd catback (no fart cans here) and a vvtl-i controller to lower lift to 5500 and play with the air fuel ratio. Some shorter springs of similar rate and coil over sleeves or performance dampers and some light 17" wheels, rays or something of that nature.

None of that right away though.need to recoup a bit after the down payment, the coffers are a bit low right now.

Make it sleeper. Can you imagine if you slapped a 25lb turbo on their with a decked out engine and keep the stock outer looks. People would be laughing until you completely pwn them.

I would have to SERIOUSLY lower the compression to run 25psi. The motor is 11.5:1 compression. Guys are running 7-8lbs reliably in stock motor. 8lb's with a vvtl-i controller, intake, bigger injectors, trd exhaust, and a dyno tune are putting about 225 to the ground. More than enough for me. but in all honesty I want to stick to simple bolt ons. I bought a 5 year/60k mile extended warranty, so anything I add needs to be able to come off quick if it needs to go in for service.

newcelica.org is a good place for that motor as well. There were a lot of guys on there doing 2zz mods and what not with excellent results.

I wouldn't run boost on that motor anyway, there are better ways for it to make power. As you said, the compression is rather high as well. I will look through my old notes on the motor and see what I can find to help you.

I'm very familiar with newcelica.org. I had a 2000 GT-S from 00-03 and was one of the early members on their forum. :D

bet i could....assuming the other driver sucks.....then again my 350 was totalled


Wow, the newer corollas are getting sick gas milage. My 2004 is barely getting 320 a tank and thats with me shoving an extra 2 gallons

He killed every mustang gt he ever ran in his 350z with a air box.
the evo is easy to mod. But add a turbo kit and well you get the picture
