The steering on my 8ight will not return to center. If I turn right and release the wheel, it does not come all the way back to center. the same happens when I turn to the left. I have tried two different servos (both good +200 oz). When I disconnect the servo, the steering moves freely, no binding.

any thoughts?

When you turn the wheels via the servo, do they turn fast like you would expect from a 200 oz torque servo, or do they turn slow? If there is no binding with the servo dissconnected you could have a issue with power to the servo. Try installing an extrernal 6volt receiver pack (if you have one or borrow from a friend) to the receiver and then give it ago, just take out the MMM from the port it is in so you are proving your radio gear only. If that works good, get that MMM looked at, possible BEC fault.

They move very fast with the servo. This one is killing me. I wonder if the servo saver might be doing something or could be worn.

Yeah, sounds like there may be some binding that the servo just can't get past. Loosen the top plate and servo saver and try........worth a crack

Check and ensure your servo saver splines are not stripped.

Could the CVDs on the outdrives be binding? If they are worn with a lot of play they could be binding. This can also effect the performanc of the suspension.

I had a similar binding issue with my 8B steering and realized that the arm that attaches to the servo (pictured below) would bind with the top of the servo case when I tightened the screw. I just dremeled a bit off for clearance and no more binding. I hope one of us gets you an answer. Good luck.

The problem was too much play in the Servo Saver in combination with too much play in the rest of the steering train. Replaced bearings and bushings, tightened the saver and it turns like it should. I think I just need to add some toe out and additional Camber to get to to turn faster in the corners.
