I am looking into getting some FLM hybrid bulkheads for my E-Maxx. I currently have a pair of Mugen MBX5-T diff's that I want to put in them. So my question is this, has anyone used Mugen MBX5-T diff's in FLM hybrid bulkheads? If so, how are they holding up? Do all 1/8 diffs use the same bearing sizes, like is it all basically standardized? Also, the MBX5-T ring/pinion gears are helical cut, and I have read that helical cut gears put alot of stress on the pinion bearings. Would I be better off going with 1/8 diffs with straight cut ring/pinion gears or should the Mugen diff's be fine as long as I have some good bearings?

I'm 90% sure they'll fit, hopefully someone else will chime in on that.

People have had problems with helical cut gears. My 2 cents is that it is difficult to get to the diffs if you do have a failure, so go with the best right away and hopefully avoid a teardown.

Also- figure out your whole setup and put it through the speed calculator. I would have been way better off with a truggy diff ratio in my FLM combos, but I put in UE super 8's and I need tiny pinions now.

I have also been considering getting Hot Bodies diffs as well.

And I already put it through the speed calculator. With my current setup (center diff and stock maxx diffs) I need a 9 tooth pinion and 51 tooth spur to have it geared for around 44MPH with some tire ballooning, with Mugen truggy diffs, I will be able to run a 15 tooth pinion and have roughly the same speed/torque.

9/51 really isn't alot of tooth contact. I think you'd be better off with truggy diffs. If you don't mind wrenching and weren't going to re-sell the mugen diffs anyway run them! If they fail,then spend money.

For me tearing down the truck is a PITA, so I just throw money at it. Pre-wheelchair I would have tore it down and rebuilt it 6 times to save a dollar.

Looks like you need to order some bulks!

No I mean 9/51 is the pinion/spur gear combo I have to run with my current setup. Since I have stock Maxx diffs in it, I have to use a 9 tooth pinion on the motor and 51 tooth spur gear on the center diff. I think the Mugen MBX5-T diff's have a 10/43 pinion/ring tooth count, and I can run a 15 tooth pinion gear on the motor with my 51 tooth spur, so I don't need a tiny 9 tooth pinion on the motor.

yeah, we're on the same page. 9/51 spur/pinion isn't alot of tooth contact. If you're mechanically minded the LST diff swap is pretty easy and could save you lots of $$$.

Sorry, though you meant the pinion/ring tooth count of truggy diffs..

A few people have told me to do the LST2 diff swap, and I would, but I prefer the design of the hybrid bulkheads, where the diff case and bulkhead are all in one. Just seems stronger IMO.

To nitrostarter- My current setup is FLM combo bulkheads (like the hybrids, but hold Maxx diffs instead) with E-Maxx diffs with FLM aluminum diff cups, center diff with 51 tooth spur and 9 tooth pinion. Since I have added the center diff, I haven't had any front/rear diff problems, they seem to be holding up pretty good, but I want 1/8 diffs in it so that I have some more gearing options.

Yeah me needs to know too. My bud finally greased his rear 3905 diff. Mike we need more info! It states "uses standard 1/8 buggy gears" That means nothing to me.

Are LST diffs a drop-fit with these?

What are the pinion bearings' dimensions?

Can they be used with stock 3905 outdrives?

Trying to get my buddy to nix some plastic, think I may have convinced him but I broke my RC Oracle, you know the one that tells you magically what works with what....

For what its worth, since FLM make the hybrid bulks it might be quicker to contact them for answer on diff compatibility. I know the majority or normal buggy or truggy diffs work, but there are some that are slightly smaller or narrower, such as the ones MIke is using in the V3 revo hybrids, those wont work without major surgery or crazy shimming.

Not sure on the bearing sizes (ask FLM again), but I do know you can use Mike's output shaft adaptors in place of the standard diff outputs in order to use stock maxx driveshafts, like I do.

Mugen diffs are small. As are XRay, Losi and AE. the hybrid bulks will accept the Kyosho mp7.5 and Ofna Hyper size diffs, which use 8x16x5 bearings. Hot Bodies Lightning diffs fit as well. if you choose to use the stock sliders, our diff shafts are required and work with any of the above mentioned diffs. :)

I guess at $140 I would like some more (very basic) info without having to embark upon the search for the Golden Fleece... err diff.

Need to know if it's really worth going this route or if he's better off with some reg'lar aluminum bulks/ diffcases. But I may just have to contact FLM directly Mr. Neil...

I have all the individual parts to build the diffs, but no assembled diffs as the product listing shows. They seem to take a while to get from my distributor for some reason. if you don't mind assembling the diffs, then I have them. :)

Mike, please list compatibility with the hybrids and the respective diffs.. might spare you and FLM some email traffic... you probably have enough to deal with already
