7.8V is for a 2S pack. For a 5S pack it would be about 19.5V.
To the original poster:
If the battery is already above 19.5V resting voltage, you should discharge it somewhat. I can't really think of any way for you to do that except running it in a car. I have my own techniques, but if all you've got is that MRC charger, they are not applicable.
If it is under 19.5, put it on the charger for a little while and take it off and measure the voltage. Repeat until you get to 19.5.
If you have room in your fridge, keep the pack in there over the winter (inside a plastic bag, with a dessicant pouch) and it will last longer. Don't charge it until it is back to room temperature.
