Velineon ESC and high end motors

I noticed these specs on the Traxxas set up

and wanted to know if it could handle something like a Neu 1515? what motors have you guys tried.

You will not want to run a 1515 on 3s lipo, 4s or more will be better. I am not impressed with the velineon esc smoothness, or startup, especially compared to a MM with the latest firmware.

I would have disagreed with you Linc, before the update. the VXL WAS better in feel to the mamba till then

Ok, crazyj, maybe your was, but my vxl rustler did not work very well, on 2s or 3s. In any case 3s is too little voltage to run a 1515 effecintly. You would need a high kv motor and some killer batts to make it work right.

I swapped my VXL for a MM, and the VXL was way smoother on the Velineon motor. I haven't upgraded the firmware yet, so I don't know how much better it will be or how it would work on a Neu motor.

Do the firmware upgrade, the mm is like a completely different esc. I plan on trying a novak motor with a mm now in my xx-cr.

Just passing on the info. I posted this on another thread that was related as well.
Traxxas is reccomending that LIPO is NOT run on their systems now. Apperently the ESC's can not handle the power as previously stated. They made a statement that Traxxas will not honor damaged ESC warentees on units run on LIPO.

Li-Po's Not Recommended For New E-Maxx

Although we reviewed the E-Maxx 16.8 in the February issue, using Li-Po batteries, Traxxas does not recommend doing so. Ni-MH batteries should be used in the application instead. Using Li-Po’s runs the risk of fire, explosion, or simply ruining the battery packs. Never attempt to use Li-Po’s in the 16.8, unless you are very experienced and familiar with Li-Po technology. The use of NiMH packs will NOT significantly diminish the performance of the new E-Maxx 16.8.

Just cause the evx lacks a lvc. No other reason to not run lipo. They are just being saftey concious as an over-discharged lipo can cause some issues! Hook up a li-saver or a novak smart stop and all is good again.

Traxxas is refering to the non brushless (EVX) EMAXX. Not their brushless system.

I had this ESC and it didn't work with a 4 pole motor. I gave the ESC away for free lol.

Hmmm My VXL ran a 60mm 4-pole Medusa on 3s pretty smooth for me, after I made some wire extensions to reach the motor.(Rustler) My MM glitched all over with TRX radio when the VXL was good in the same setup.
